Sunset. The shifting golds and oranges were beginning to shift high above, twisting and blending into purples and blues as the sky continued to darken in the sun’s departure. It swirled and stretched, just reaching through the pines that stretched up across the eastern and south ends of ShadowClan’s territory. However, the shadows were longer, slowly expanding within the undergrowth. They tangled and stretched up the trunks, around the branches, across the ground that remained scattered with pine needles and leaves long since fallen. Soon, there would be more. However, if that was any benefit to their territory, ShadowClan remained with plenty of evergreens to keep their territory bright.
The leader moved without a word, pressed through the undergrowth and the shadows, his long tabby pelt flat against his frame and head held low. His gaze scanned ahead with care, studying the bushes and plants that sprung from the soft ground. The occasional fern blooming within the dark said enough for how close the two cats drew to the border, if the scents washing over from the slopes ahead didn’t say enough. The road, the thunderpath stunk enough on its own, however, unlike many it was simply another smell, another scent he’d been raised around, and even seasons later still had an odd sense of home attached. Maybe it was due to its proximity to ShadowClan in all.
However, ThunderClan’s scent remained less pleasant, along with fresh. The leader’s nose twitched, as he glanced back over his shoulder to find the form of his deputy. It wasn’t often the two of them walked alone, or talked beyond the necessary amounts daily to keep the clan in order. Yet, there was always a point of change, and with the camp in good hands, the two moves alone through the expanse that was their territory. Perhaps he was being a little too sentimental about it. However, when a cat knew differently, they tended to savour what they called home all the more. Or despised it. The leader’s tail flicked. “If ThunderClan insist on marking this border as often as this, I might need to start taking offense,” he meowed, whiskers twitching as he camp to a halt.
The slope of the thunderpath loomed past the pines ahead, and Darkstar looked back toward Onyxfeather, gesturing for him to take the lead with a flick of his tail. “No apprentices have been playing chicken with the border, have they?”
