short appearance description
a stocky, round-faced tom with dense white fur and large blue eyes.
personality
+ dutiful, honest, humble, altruistic
- anxious, bumbling, cowardly, self-critical
Poolpaw is an apprentice lacking in confidence. He does his best to keep a positive spirit, but tends to keep a negative view of himself. What he lacks in self-worth however, he makes up for well in compassion.
Charitable and understanding, there is no task too small for Poolpaw to take pride in carrying out. Work that tends more often than not to make other apprentices cringe is met with a cheerful smile and a willingness to help from the tom. He is especially fond of kits and elders, managing a decent reputation for his helpfulness where combat isn't involved.
When it comes to the most common duties of a warrior however - border patrols, hunts, and establishing territory markers - he tends to fall short. He struggles to maintain a confident, powerful facade in the face of adversity - making his thickset frame good for little more than just looking clumsy. The slightest sound is enough to send him running back to camp, and as little as a shift in the wind seems to be capable of making him bristle. Confrontation is met with fear, submission, and an unwillingness to fight - though typically by the time a fight can begin he's already shrieked and turned tail.
As strong a grip as his fear has on him however, his devotion to the well being of Riverclan keeps him going. He is proud of his people and sticks steadfast to the Warrior Code, holding a great reverence for Starclan and a deep respect for any advice offered to him. He takes his responsibilities seriously, and quietly expects his fellows to do the same.

history
No one really ever had... very high expectations for Poolkit. He was awkward, thick, and unfortunately, a little slow on the uptake. Wandering off was common for him when he was young, though he was rarely clever enough to get very far without being caught and dragged back to his mother. His fearless wandering however wasn't due to bravery or stubbornness, but instead a lack of understanding. It wasn't until one of the clan's warriors rescued him from an encounter with a snake that the word "danger" gained meaning for him.
It was with his discovery of fear that all aspiration to become a warrior became lost to him. Rarely did he stray from his mother's side, or the safety and comfort of the other nurses' company. Even the simplest stories told by elders only served as nightmare fuel. With not only his fellow kits, but some of the warriors of the clan participating in some "good-natured" teasing regarding his cowardice, his only comfort quickly became the Warrior Code and the firm belief that Starclan's wisdom would guide him to safety.
It goes without saying that he was not among the top picks of kits to be taken on as an apprentice.
