all the while frostpaw was talking, maplepaw was battling herself in her head. would he think her incompetent if she didn't agree to join him? it wasn't that she didn't want to, it was just that she didn't want to! it went against a lot of rules, and she didn't want to exiled for being a bad apprentice. the she-cat winced slightly as he mentioned the hungry queens and elders, know that he was right. there were so many that would benefit from them going out and hunting. so why was she so against the idea? while the war raged on in her head, she slowly began to nod, subconsciously agreeing to whatever frostpaw had just said. she sighed.
"I guess going out for a little while wouldn't be that bad." her voice quivered with nerves and fear, images of what might happen raving through her mind. she tried not to look directly at him, but she did raise her head. he was right after all; it would be more fun than sitting around twiddling their tails. taking in a huge breath, she rose to her paws, and dared herself to look at frostpaw. if they were going to do this, it would have to be within the next few moments before she lost her nerve. plastering on a huge smile to try and hide her inner strife, the she-kit said "promise we won't get into trouble?"
without waiting for a response, her stomach knotted painfully with worry, she trotted off towards the entrance, and slipped out into riverclan territory. this was it. she was outside of the camp without her mentor, and anything that happened now would be her own fault. she really hoped that nothing would happen to them, and that frostpaw was a better fighter than she was. she stopped a fox length away from the opening into the camp, and waited, her heart pounding in her chest, and her fluffy tail flicking behind her.
