Sparrowpelt- ShadowClan Medicine CatSparrowpelt never thought she was very good at hunting. While her brother (Bless his soul) did try to teach her from time to time, her eye would always make it a troublesome thing. She would be not even mouse length off from her target – but in hunting, accuracy was everything. She saw how elegant other warriors pounced on their prey that she always felt self-conscious asking anyone else but her brother. So when she went out to the territory to just look and spy on some herbs she had known about- the frog almost slipped by her vision. She froze, her good eye on it for a moment- her ears pricked for anyone else.
A quick sweep of her eyes let her know she was the only one in the area- at least that she could notice. The tabby took a small breath and knew it was going to go badly- but part of her, wanted to try. She hesitantly took her next steps. They were too hesitant- but the frog really didn’t seem to care much about her at the moment. She was silent, her head tilted just slightly so her good eye had more of the focus. The rough back of the frog stared back at her- and she pounced. She missed it, misjudging the distance. The frog hopped once and she stayed in the odd position, glaring at the stupid amphibian.
Straightening herself up with a small huff and a glare, she tried again. If anyone would have asked her the two times she would have missed it was a bit comical but she was surprised when she missed but corrected herself since she landed right next to it. Killing the frog with one blow, she held it there for a minute- before dropping the frog rather unceremoniously to the ground. Sparrowpelt stared at it warily for a second- not sure if she had even killed it as she reached out a paw to poke it. It stayed still- as it was dead.
She poked it again. Same result.
A grin broke out on her face. “I got you, you bouncing piece of dung!” She said happily. “I knew I could do it.” She sniffed with pride before she blinked. “Sparrowpelt, you caught a frog. Stop that.” She mumbled to herself with a shake of her fur, but couldn’t help smile at her catch. She didn’t even hear the pine needles shift from near her.
