personality
introducing sandfur, a feline who cherishes the life that she has in riverclan yet occasionally questions the way of the clans. whilst there are some clancats who disapprove of kittypets and outsiders joining the clans, she is one of those who is more than welcome for them to live among them and would be more than willing to stand up to anyone who may try to use their history against them. if it came up in an argument, being someone who is stubborn and feisty, she will definitely rise up to it and not back down easily.
during her kithood, the only parent that sandfur had much attention off was her mother and her mother's gentleness has worn onto the female to make her, quite surprisingly, a rather motherly cat who is affectionate towards kits and could never feel angry at them. despite how annoying they can sometimes be, sandfur just loves how cute they are even when they're angry and how innocent they are - the smallest of things can have them fascinated and part of her wishes that she could be that young again. it would be great to go back in time and be a kit once more, playing with pieces of moss that she had ripped out of her nest and pestering her mother to tell her a story.
without meaning to, the she-cat has a tendency to distant herself from the rest of the clan. whilst they may all be sharing tongues, sometimes she will just sit there on her own which she doesn't mean to do by any of means, it just sort of ends up happening. her own actions can lead to her feeling quite lonely and wishing she had hundreds of friends like others in the clan appear to. she often wishes that she could have a different personality so that she was easier for others to befriend and that way, she'd never feel lonely. but she knows she can't change herself and therefore she just has to accept it and try to change for her own benefit.
apart from the fact she doesn't really think she will ever have many friends, sandfur is actually quite positive on most things and doesn't think on how bad things may turn out and instead is optimistic and believes that most things will turn out good. she hates to think of things that can endanger riverclan and instead focuses on how the clan is strong and hopes that nothing could ever tear it's ranks apart. her clan means everything to her and she speaks proudly of it when she talks about it, despite any negatives that she has about it. yes, she may think her clanmates are foolish when it comes to some things but she would look out for them and do all she could to not let any of them down.

history
it was on a hot and sunny day when sandkit was birthed, to two warriors who were barely out of apprenticeship and were fooled into thinking they had fallen into something called love. squirrelclaw and heathercloud had grown up together and once they were warriors, it was in a sudden moment when squirrelclaw told heathercloud that he was in love with her and from there, their friendship took a quick and rapid change. the two believed that they really did want to be together and they were desperate to make it work. destiny decided otherwise as the pair were given their single daughter.
the thing was that the arrival of sandkit should have brought them closer. instead, at the announcement of heathercloud's pregnancy, the appeal of having a mate quickly worse off for squirrelclaw. he hadn't thought of all the responsibility that could be put on his shoulders if heathercloud ever was to expect kits and now fatherhood was just around the corner. he and heathercloud talked and they were civil with one another when they decided to end the relationship. so when squirrelclaw approached her a few days before she gave birth hissing and in a rage, heathercloud was more than surprised. somewhat hurt too for what had it taken for him to turn against her so suddenly?
it was revealed that apparently she had been spreading rumors that it was him who called off the relationship with her for no cause and he had left her utterly broken-hearted. instead of feeling relieved that his anger was over something so ridiculous, heathercloud just felt so disappointed in the tom and she decided then and there that he was not who she thought he was. if he believed that she was someone to do that sort of thing then he was very much deluded and must have her mistaken for somebody else. for the next two days neither she or squirrelclaw were on speaking terms so when she gave birth, things felt awkward when the father came to visit his kit. heathercloud knew that he didn't want to see them and instead just felt obliged to - she felt so much shame in the cat who she had for a short while been willing to spend the rest of her life with and no longer did she feel that she knew him. she decided that she would never take a mate again and that she was better off on her own as all having a mate had done in the end was leave her upset.
besides, the she-cat had more important things to focus on, such as the little ball of fluff who was her daughter. the kitten's fragility scared the new mother and the fact that she wasn't much older was something that heathercloud couldn't get out of her mind. with sandkit actually there in front of her, heathercloud realised how young she was to be a queen. occasionally she would feel her clanmates looking at her and whenever she turned to meet their gaze, they would quickly look away. her own parents had already expressed their disappointment in her and she didn't recall ever feeling so lonely.
in some ways good and some ways bad, sandkit seemed to very quickly grow and was soon out of the nursery where she started her training. her mentor happened to be a close friend of squirrelclaw's, also sandpaw didn't realise how things were between her parents and therefore it didn't bother her. she barely even knew her father so this cat was just like a stranger to her, although he didn't seem unfriendly with her in any way. in fact, they got along greatly.
it was around her ninth moon when the apprentice witnessed her father participating in a fight and really felt aware that he was her blood. she watched as her father leaped at the other she-cat and as they rolled around the floor hissing at one another, many others gathering around looking concerned and trying to put an end to the brawl. finally the two were torn apart and sandpaw watched as the injured warriors slunk off with tears in her eyes. being so young, to see something as horrific as that within riverclan's camp, sandpaw felt scared and confused. who was she meant to feel loyalty towards? her father who had barely even spoken two words to her or a she-cat who had been attacked for no reason?
her mother made her promise to stay away from squirrelclaw. heathercloud told sandpaw that he was dangerous and a bad example. but when he approached her one day, out of the blue, she couldn't help but forget about the abandonment from him and want to develop their father-daughter bond. he took her on walks, showed her hunting techniques and told her stories about some of the great warriors from the past. she realised how they were alike in so many ways other than their similar pelt colours - he was snappy like she was, his favorite place in the territory was the river like it was her's and he was scared of thunder and lightning. minnowstream was not happy about her daughter getting closer to her father but there was nothing she could do about it as it was sandpaw's choice what she did. so warily, she watched to make sure that her child did not get hurt by him just as she had done.
after what felt like an eternity, sandpaw's warrior ceremony rolled around and she received her new name sandfur. she listened to the loud cheers of her clanmates, her mother's the loudest, with the best feeling of pride. she quickly learnt how tiring being a warrior could be, yet still loved her new freedom - she could go out without somebody moaning that she needed somebody with he and that made her really happy. she deemed there was nothing better than to go on a walk alone and run and jump as she pleased.
the warrior noticed that after her ceremony, her life was rather ordinary and that is something she liked and still does like. she doesn't want all of the drama that exists within the lives of some others. the tension between her mother and father is enough for her.
