It is a popular myth that sometimes the most adored people are the charming rogues, the ones that the group put up with and love regardless of their fault. Maybe to a degree that is the case with Salmonstripe. However, it is likely closer to the point that RiverClan don’t have any choice but to put up with the intolerable idiot. Charismatic and charming, Salonstripe swans around any gathering of cats with his head held high and a grin firmly planted across his face, ready to sweet-talk his way into the hearts of those around him. Always with some sort of remark to make, for better or worse, there certainly after some cats who get draw into the tom’s outgoing and relatively friendly nature. He seems to always have a joke on his tongue, whether that’s innocent, flirty, or plain sarcastic is anyone’s guess, but it does make him at least entertaining to be around.
Dramatic with every element of his life, he seems to always play up insults and remarks to bait others, even if he has a remarkably thick skin. It takes a lot or very pointed things to get under the tom’s fur, not something most cats can achieve. Especially not when he pretending to die or dramatically exclaiming about the end of the world over a fish that is too small for some warrior. That perhaps is the start of where cats get tired of him. His constant ribbing and jibes over the smallest of things to any cat. Of course, all this speaks of a very confidence cat, perhaps too confident. Certainly an arrogant one. The fact he is so opinionated about every little thing helps with that image. He’ll argue about anything, deflecting, working others up, and enjoying every moment of it. Confident in that he is right and will always be right, even if the other cat thinks they’ve won leaving the discussion.
As might be assumed, Salmonstripe doesn’t know where others have set their limits, and will test his boundaries and luck until it comes back to smack him in the face. He doesn’t know when to quit, when to back down or accept defeat. He pushes and pushes, and then dismisses the other cat complete when they snap. He is a warrior too confrontational for his own good, and it is no doubt a thorn in the side of every RiverClan cat who has to deal with him on a daily basis. Then again, his clan does get some reprieve, given he is a cat who hates staying in the camp longer than he has to. Adventurous to a fault, Salonstripe wants to see the world, wants to find every secret he can, wants to experience what no other RiverClan cat has done before. It pushes him to the very borders of the territory, always hunting after stories and ideas for answers.
Of course, if a cat wants to get between him and his heart’s desires, they’ll quickly find out exactly how rebellious the tom is. Awful at following orders, and always questioning the warrior code and the leader’s word, he is always trying his luck and ending up punished for it. Of course, his loyalty is just as questionable for the clan. To friends is a very different matter, but to his clan, without someone rationalising every decision, he can’t say he’ll ever be all forever for the clan. His friends and family come first, and for them, well these are the cats who do see his better sides. The funny, carefree tom who does have a heart of gold somewhere in his chest, where he does mean well even if it comes out wrong. Sure, he might be an insufferable twat sometimes, and impulsive, dramatic idiot too reckless for his own good. But he’s compassionate, and courageous when it comes to saving lives and removing suffering from those of others. Even if it doesn’t always go to plan.
Maybe one day more cats will see those particular traits in him. For now, most cats are just pleased when he isn’t aggravating someone in the middle of the camp.
